GOALS galore was the main takeaway from the latest round of domestic football, with monster scores coming across all six divisions represented over the weekend.
Grouville continue their fine form this season at the summit of Premiership 1 on Saturday, as they recorded another outstanding away win, cruising past Madeira FC 6-1 to remain three points clear and still unbeaten.
Harrison Moon was the star of the show with a hat-trick, ably backed by goals from teammates Jules Gabbiadini, Edgar Da Costa and Logan McGee to cancel out the lone Madeira strike from Henrique Sousa Cristovao.
Still chasing hard are defending champions St Clement, who sealed their own solid victory with a Jay Dos Santos inspired 3-0 home win over St Paul’s. Dos Santos’ brace was added to by Bruno Da Silva to maintain their unbeaten run so far, leaving the Anchors just three points off Grouville with a game in hand.
Sporting Academics attained a wild three points with a 2-1 away victory over a struggling Jersey Wanderers side, despite having not one, but two men sent off. Diogo Franca gave the Accies the lead going into half-time, before Barry Keith doubled their lead. Zac Traynor grabbed one back for the home side, but Accies dug deep and held firm for a crucial win.
The biggest scoreline, however, was shared between the impressive St Brelade, sitting in third, and the winless St Peter in a match that had absolutely everything and saw St Brelade take a huge 7-3 victory.
Both Ryan Le Cornu and Connor Maher bagged doubles, with Jake Syvret and Ethan Kay also netting, with an own goal adding to the Crosskey’s misery.
Despite the men in red being reduced to ten when Lucas Parker was dismissed, they managed to score three on the road through Kevin Camacho, James Frudd and Peter Vincenti, however still remain winless in the league this season.
Moving to Premiership 2, both St Lawrence and First Tower United continue their winless streaks as they succumbed to Rozel Rovers and Sports Club of Jersey respectively.
Rozel Rovers impressed at home against bottom side St Lawrence, smashing six unanswered goals through six different scorers: Nick Breakspear, Stanley Heynes, Ned Dixon, Simphambili Nkosiphile, George Sheehy and Nathan MacDonald.
First Tower United went down by just the one goal however, as Hugo Pereira’s strike gave Sports Club a big three points away from home.
Championship 1 action saw the biggest goal fest of the weekend, as Grouville Reserves and St Peter Reserves shared a whopping 12 goals at Le Boulivot.
The game ended an astonishing 9-3 to the home side, with the sparkling Stewart Daynes stealing the headlines with an incredible five goals. Marco Da Assuncao also shone with a brace, with Calvin Antunes and Stephen Coleman chipping in.
St Peter Reserves mirrored their first team with three goals on the road through Jacob Riley, Alex Kilpatrick and Joe Bishop, but they also recorded no points for their efforts.
Over the opposite side of the Island, St Ouen’s Reserves smashed Jersey Wanderers Reserves 4-1 at home. Alfie Cutland’s goal on half-time gave Wanderers a sniff going into the changing rooms at 1-1, but a pair of braces from Maximilian Simon and Alex Le Blancq sealed the emphatic win for the still unbeaten league leaders.
Just the one game in Championship 2 saw St Paul’s Reserves take an excelling 3-2 away win over Sporting Academics Reserves at IJB Field, leapfrogging them in the league table despite goals for the Accies Reserves from Aarron Scott and Liam Irwin.
Sunday’s action turned to the Women’s Division, as Rozel Rovers Women maintained their push to catch Guernsey FC Women with an emphatic 4-2 home win over Jersey Wanderers Women.
Emily Le Page’s double was the main highlight for the home side alongside Tiffany Sundby and Holly Muirhead’s strikes, despite Samantha Silva starring for Wanderers with two goals in vain.
Rozel remain in second place, three points behind the Sarnian leaders, while Wanderers sit fourth, just three points off the bottom.
Rounding off the weekend was the Alexforbes & Hepburns Walking Football division at Springfield Stadium.
League leaders Trinity continued their dominance thanks to a hat-trick from Noel Kernan securing a 3-2 win over St John, despite strikes from St John’s Jason Oeillet and Paul Sims.
Second-placed First Tower gave up ground on the chasing pack after a heavy 6-3 defeat by an impressive Madeira FC side, with two goals coming for both Victor Santos and Marco Aveiro alongside singles from Marco Freitas and Mario Lino Gouveia Sousa.
Portuguese FC of Jersey jumped up to third place with a good 3-2 win over St Peter thanks to goals from Luis Bento, Stephen O’Brien and Helder Jorge Silva Da Luz eclipsing the efforts of Mark Owen and Nigel Godfrey for the Crosskeys.
Rounding off the weekend, St Paul’s got their first win of the campaign thanks to a 4-2 triumph over Rozel Rovers, hopping above them into seventh with goals from Paul Cauvain, Tim Dallas-Chapman, Jean-Luc Desbois and Simon Logan.
