Child tells court of man’s alleged ‘touching game’

The Royal Court

A YOUNG child has spoken of how a man allegedly made her touch him sexually in what the Royal Court heard he described as “a game”.

The child’s mother wept in court as she recalled the moment when her daughter first told her about the alleged offending by Davide Romano (38).

A jury yesterday heard evidence from the girl and her mother on the first day of the trial of Mr Romano, who is accused of two counts of sexually touching a child under 12 and one of causing a child under 12 to engage in a sex act. He denies the charges.

A jury of seven women and five men were shown a police interview with the girl recorded last year. In it she said he had made her touch him.

She said he had taken her into his bedroom and blindfolded her with a T-shirt, telling her they were going to play a game.

“I didn’t like the game. It was unpleasant,” she said.

The court heard that the alleged victim told her mother what happened the same day.

Sobbing in court, the mother said: “She said she thought people wouldn’t believe her. She was embarrassed and started to get tearful.”

The States police were contacted the following day. The trial is expected to last for the rest of this week. The Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, is presiding.
