A 40-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for six months after he approached a teenager in a public park before grabbing her, biting her and attempting to kiss her.
Isaac Njuguna Mukuru (40) will also be recommended for deportation once he is released.
Appearing in the Magistrate’s Court, Mukuru pleaded guilty to sexual touching without consent.
The court heard that he did not know his victim and tried to engage her in conversation before the attack.
After she told a relative what had happened shortly after, the States police were immediately called and Mukuru was arrested nearby.
Detective Sergeant Alasdair Castle praised the “courage” of the young victim in coming forward and for “having the confidence in us”, which he said “enabled us to achieve the right outcome in this case”.
“We wish to reassure all victims of crime that we understand the difficulties and concerns in reporting these types of offences,” he added.
“However, we will ensure they are supported throughout the criminal-justice process and will work tirelessly in bringing sexual offenders to justice.”
Mukuru was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years and has been recommended for deportation after he is released from prison.
