One-way reversal to help cars get to Premier Inn

Dumaresq Street (39280884)

TRAFFIC is to be reversed on a section of road in the centre of St Helier in order to improve accessibility to a nearby hotel.

The move will affect a short stretch at the west end of Dumaresq Street, allowing taxis and bicycles to travel from the junction with Hue Street towards Charing Cross.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan said the move, which will take effect permanently from Monday 11 November, was designed to enhance access to the Premier Inn, with taxis able to drop off outside the hotel.

He said: “This traffic direction change supports accessibility and helps ensure all visitors, especially those with mobility needs, feel welcome.

“We are committed to implementing measures that enhance accessibility across the Island in response to feedback from visitors.”

The Premier Inn welcomed its first visitors in July 2018, with a second branch of the hotel chain subsequently opening in early 2022.
