THE headliner of the main stage at this year’s Channel Islands Pride has been announced.

Drag artist Tia Kofi – who won the second series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World – will be performing at the event, which is taking place in Guernsey next month.

Kofi is among a host of artists announced by organisers who will perform on Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September.

Madonna tribute act Melissa Totten will be performing at the Pride Party in Market Square on the Saturday, while there will also be DJ sets and an official Pride after-party. More acts are to be confirmed.

The performances are in addition to the annual Channel Islands Pride Parade, sponsored by Mourant, which will set off from Candie Gardens and head to Market Square in time for the free, family-friendly Pride Party.

The event hopes to raise funds for Liberate, the Channel Islands’ equality and diversity charity.

Liberate Guernsey chief executive Ellie Jones, who is CI Pride director, said to expect “fabulous drag” and “electrifying performances”, as well as what is believed to be the first ever legal wedding on a Pride stage.

“The two people getting married used to attend the LGBTQ+ young group many years ago and they asked if I would marry them, which I was very honoured to be asked to do.”

She added: “Channel Islands Pride can only happen with the help and hard work of our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers.

“You can volunteer for an hour or a day, in the run-up or on the day – whatever works with your schedule. If you think you can help us out, please get in touch.”

An alcohol-free zone, dedicated “access volunteers” and a stage signer will be at the event for those with extra needs.

A “quiet space” will also be available at the Pride Party.

Additional volunteers are encouraged to get in touch with organisers to see how they can help.
