ISLANDERS kicked off the Liberation Day celebrations this morning with a breakfast event in the Town Hall.

Around 100 attended the free event to reminisce over bacon and eggs about the arrival of the liberating forces on May 9 1945.

Today marks 79 years since Jersey was liberated from occupation at the end of World War Two.

Celebrations are due to continue with a special sitting of the States Assembly at 10.30am, before Members, clergy, and officers take part in a procession to Liberation Square.

A service of thanksgiving with Bailiff Sir Tim Le Cocq will begin at around 11am.
