A MOTORIST who drove at 37mph along a “green lane” with a 15mph speed limit has been fined £300 and banned from driving for four weeks.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that 45-year-old Adam Fender was spotted driving his grey Hyundai at two and a half times the limit on the afternoon of 17 October.

St Helier Centenier Paul Huelin, prosecuting, confirmed that Fender had a valid licence and insurance and no passengers in his vehicle.

Advocate Stephen Wauchope, defending, said Fender was the sole provider for his family and needed to drive for his job.

He added: “He is not a habitual speeder at all. He is a habitual rule-follower. He didn’t realise that he had entered a 15mph zone.”

The Magistrate, Bridget Shaw, said Fender would have to face a driving ban but agreed to impose a short one.
