St Paul’s cruise into round three of JFA Cup with win

WHILE Jersey’s U21s were dismantling Guernsey to reclaim the Ambassadeur Bowl at Springfield Stadium, the JFA Combination season continued to take shape, with action across six separate competitions during the week.

In the Jersey FA Cup, St Paul’s progressed to round three at the expense of St Ouen’s Reserves.

Callum Gilroy scored a brace for the visitors, while Stanley Dunne, Joey O’Toole and Barry Beatson Sr were also on target, in a 5-1 success.

Grouville have also gone through following a 4-2 victory at St Peter, behind goals from Jules Gabbiadini, Logan McGhee, Andre Nunes and Robert Martins-Figueira.

Thomas Ewing and Ryan Hall were on target for the westerners.

Meanwhile, St Brelade were handed an away walkover from First Tower.

There was also Jersey Dog Club Challenge Cup action, as a Daniel Stevens brace and Harry Waters single led St John Reserves to a 3-0 win at Rozel Rovers Reserves.

In the Women’s Division, Guernsey FC took all three points away from St Peter with a 6-0 win.

Doubles from Codie Le Flem and Calleigh Hedley, alongside one apiece from Elise Le Lacheur and Donna Gallienne, rounded off a successful visit by the Sarnians, who occupy top spot with Rozel Rovers on two wins from two.

Meanwhile, Jersey Wanderers ran riot against visiting Sports Club of Jersey.

Talented teenager Sofia Rodrigues scored four on the day, with a pair of braces from Courtney McDade, Lara Couvert.

Samantha Reis, Hannah Lynam and Sam Silva also netted for Wanderers, to earn their first points of the young season.

Championship 1 leaders St Ouen Reserves continued to assert, with a 5-1 win at St Peter Reserves, behind goals from Oliver Carney (2), Maximilian Simon (2) and Joel Vieira.

Alex Kilpatrick grabbed St Peter’s lone goal.

Jersey Wanderers Reserves climbed to third following a 4-0 home win against St Brelade Reserves, as Zac Traynor (2), Jack Browning and Jared Trevor all netted.

St Brelade had an uphill battle after Bruce King was sent off on 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, it was all about Stewart Daynes as his Grouville Reserves travelled to St Clement Reserves.

The hosts took a 2-0 lead into the break behind goals from Connor O’Shea and Paul Burton, before Daynes took over to score a second-half hat-trick, with the winner in the third additional minute.

Victory leaves Grouville in second, just three points behind St Ouen’s.

O35s Division leaders St Ouen’s continued their impressive start to the season, adding a fifth win in a row in convincing fashion.

A Vincent Gilbert hat-trick, Christopher Andrews’ brace and singles from James Styles and Tom Eaton propelled the side to a 7-1 win at Rozel Rovers, whose lone scorer was Robert Lowry.

Meanwhile, St Peter and St Lawrence shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw.

Andrew Vaughan’s first-half goal put St Peter ahead, but after Joao Goncalves was red-carded on 50 minutes, Matthew Godel squared the tie for St Lawrence.

Four fixtures took place in the popular Alexforbes & Hepburns Walking Football league.

Jason Oeillet’s hat-trick propelled St John to a 3-1 victory over Grouville, as Danny Moisan netted for the easterners.

St Paul’s remain rooted to the bottom after a 2-1 defeat to St Ouen, behind a Daniel Craven double.

Simon Logan scored the St Paul’s goal.

Meanwhile, Jose Julio Moniz grabbed both of Portuguese FC of Jersey’s goals in a 2-0 win against Rozel Rovers and Marco Freitas’ brace led Madeira FC to a 2-1 win against St Peter.
