JERSEY Hospice Care is set to open its first charity shop in the east of the Island.
Holme Grown farm shop in Grouville will house the new shop, which will be the palliative care charity’s third location in addition to sites in St Ouen and St Helier.
The charity said they had been working closely with Holme Grown on the project, which is expected to open fully in February next year.
“We’re thrilled to be opening a new shop in Holme Grown,” said Marcus Meadows, head of retail at Jersey Hospice Care. “With a great café and fantastic local produce on offer in the farm shop, it’s an ideal location for our customers, especially those living in the south-east of the Island.
“We aim to make our shops as accessible as possible to all Islanders, whether they’re donating, shopping, volunteering or working for us, and this third shop in Grouville opens a whole new catchment area for us.
“Our current plans are that Holme Grown will have a donation point, and customers will be able to shop for furniture, women’s and men’s fashion, footwear, accessories, childrenswear, toys, linens, china, glass and kitchenware.”
Before they officially open, the charity hope to host several pop-up events at Holme Grown before Christmas this year.
Stanley Payn, owner of the farm shop, said: “Over the years we have constantly developed our offering to meet the needs of our customers, and we’re really excited to be able to introduce this great new addition to our shopping experience.
“It’s also a valuable opportunity for us to support Hospice, a charity that nearly all of us will rely on at some point in our lives, whether directly or through loved ones. We look forward to opening this new part of our shop and continuing to develop our purposeful partnership with Hospice.”
It is estimated to cost £6 million each year to provide the crucial end-of-life services at Hospice.
Mike Palfreman, chief executive of the charity, added: “Our popular shops in St Ouen and St Helier are successfully providing Hospice with around £1m of essential income each year to support our services.
“With an ageing population, demand for our services is only set to rise, so we are constantly seeking ways to maximise our current income streams as well as developing new ones. We hope that opening a third shop in Grouville will not only benefit those living in the area, but will also help provide some of the funds needed to meet our ambitious plans.”
Several retail positions and volunteering opportunities will become available as a result of the project, the charity has said. If you are interested in finding out more about those positions, contact the charity at PeopleTeam@jerseyhospicecare.com.
