ISLANDERS are being warned to watch out for debris on the roads, possible flooding and other disruption around high tides tonight and tomorrow morning.

Large “spring” tides – which are named to reflect the wide difference between the high and low water marks, rather than indicating the time of year – are set to occur at 7.16pm tonight and 7.38am tomorrow morning, with projected heights of around 38 feet (11 metres).

Jersey Met has issued an orange warning, stating that wind and high tides are likely to cause waves to break over sea walls.

The warning continued: “This may cause disruption, with water and debris on roads along Jersey’s south coast – some flooding may occur.”

Disruption is most likely within an hour each side of high tide, the forecaster has advised.

Debris on roads may be more difficult to see during the hours of darkness, with the sun due to set at 6.14pm tonight and to rise again at 7.34am tomorrow.
