ISLANDERS are being urged to “remain vigilant” after a series of orange wind warnings were issued for today.

And nearly all Condor Ferries sailings have been cancelled for Sunday and Monday, leaving Islanders stranded as the weather wreaks “havoc” on travel plans.

Jersey Met posted the first warning for Force 6 to Force 8 winds from the south east on Saturday evening, but this was upgraded on Sunday morning to an orange gale-force warning which will come into effect from around 9am.

Gusts up to 50mph could be expected later today, a third warning stated.

The warnings, which were reposted by the States police, said that Islanders should “remain vigilant” and “check the latest forecast”.

Meanwhile, Condor Ferries has cancelled a spate of sailings due to the gusty weather.

All of the Liberation sailings are not going today, and every single scheduled sailing has been cancelled for Monday.

This means Islanders are stranded while the gales continue, with the Condor Ferries Users’ Facebook Group documenting that those on Monday’s Islander ferry have been told the next available boat is Thursday.

Someone commented: “The weather seems to have caused havoc with many crossings.”

Another admitted in their comment that the weather was to blame, but Condor’s customer service could be improved, with some spending hours on the phone.
